December 5th, 10am to 6 pm at the Lane County Fairgrounds, dozens of local authors and artists will join to present, sell, sign and talk about their work. Mark your calendar! I'll be there from 2-6 with Sheer Folly, the paperback of Black Ship, and lots of other books. http://lanelibrary.org/AuthorsAndArtistsFair.htm

Pelican-watching

11/27/2009

Wednesday morning, I walked on Carlsbad sea-wall with Terri (my daughter-in-law) and the grandkids. Dark blue sea, pelicans skimming the waves--how do they manage not to dip their wings in the water, flying so close? I'm waiting for one to spear a surfer.

In the evening, we had a bonfire on the beach and watched them fly home, looking like strange prehistoric night-creatures. The sun set quickly but the sky stayed gold--then blood-red (there speaks the mystery writer) for ages. When the waves went out, a band of matching colour showed on the wet sand. The kids ran around yelling and kicking up sand. Someone brought marshmallows but we had eaten at the salad bar (Souplantation) just before and couldn't face any. Healthy eating--the salad part, at least.

This morning I went  to my grandson's preschool Thanksgiving pary. Outdoors on a beautiful S. Calif. November day (the climate suits me at this time of year!) Parents all brought food, including a splendid turkey made from a melon with various other fruit stuck on with toothpicks and swizzle sticks, for the head (a pear), tail, etc. My son snatched a half hour from school to come too.  A nice change from sitting staring at a computer screen all day!.

I'm going to be signing SHEER FOLLY  and the paperback of BLACK SHIP in SAN DIEGO at Mysterious Galaxy, Friday 11/20 at 7, and LOS ANGELES Mystery Bookstore, Saturday 11/21 at noon. Do drop by and say hello!

Here's Trillian--heroine of the blog!

Home from Seattle. The drive wasn't too bad. Stopped for lunch with a friend in Olympia. Lovely visit with my agent--including an Indian restaurant :-) --The people at Seattle Mystery bookstore are the best! Wrote a post on their blog: http://seattlemysteryblog.typepad.com/   Stopped in Portland on the way home to see my cousins--walked in and said all I want to do is lie flat on the floor with my feet on a chair--my back had reached that point, but soon recovered.

I'll be signing SHEER FOLLY and the paperback of BLACK SHIP at Seattle Mystery Bookstore  November 13th at NOON. Friday 13th is usually a lucky day for me. Come and see me!

Hope to see some of you one place or another.

Back news: I walked down to the river on Saturday for the first time in 6 weeks. Wonderful!

Dog news: The new six-foot fence went up last Wednesday. Trillian figured out how to open the gate this morning. It's now fastened with a leather strap. Anyone want to bet on how long it takes her to work out the buckle?

New chair news: Love it!
