Library encounter

06/29/2010

Being the helpful soul I am, when I heard the woman in front of me asking the librarian how to find out the proper order of a series, I chimed in. "FantasticFiction.com," I said. Then I noticed that the librarian had my website on her computer screen. And the woman was holding Manna from Hades. And what she wanted was a list of MY books!

I did feel silly. But there were the lists right here, the Cornish Mysteries (a short list so far) and the Daisy Dalrymple Mysteries, each with its own page.

Afterwards, the librarian told me the patron had said she knew I was local. The librarian had said, "She's not only local, she's just over there!"

It's an odd feeling meeting readers quite by chance, in an unexpected setting. I once came out of the local post office and there were two of Daisy's fans coming in! People in Eugene often recognize me because my picture's been in the local paper more than once. In fact, I was once walking down the street when a neighbour accosted me with "We saw you on TV!" I was extremely surprised, as I hadn't a clue I'd been on TV. It turned out they were running an ad for the Lane Library League Holiday Fair, and they just happened to choose my pic to flash on the screen.

Writing is definitely a peculiar profession!

I don't mind wearing the hat but I WON'T parade around the playground.

Wow, Gran brought me flowers!

And Daddy took off work to film me. I can manage a smile for that.

Okay, I don't mind sitting outside with the others.

But I don't care if my teacher calls my name, I'm NOT going to go and get a rolled-up piece of paper from her.

Ah, Mom's here at last!

Icecream--Now that's more like it.

Who knew Yahoo had a book review site? Kind of quirky but nice review here:

Seattle Mystery Bookstore signing Noon on Friday 18th, followed by Bethel Avenue Books in Port Orchard at about 5 pm, depending on the ferry.

Daisy books still in Hatchard's window--I know it's "still," not a pic of the same view, because they're in a different position, bottom row and next to lowest. (Thanks to Libi Astaire for the photo)

E-NEWS

I just found out my Regency ebooks are now available for Nook e-readers at BarnesandNoble.com, (They have the most recent mysteries, too.) as well as a variety of other e-book sites and the publisher's, RegencyReads.com. I love getting royalties for books I wrote decades ago!

The Babe and the Baron was my best seller for the quarter.
